the connect ones to watch

Artists to watch in 2017 | #TheConnect | Part 1

Earlier this year, we launched a brand new playlist series called The Connect. Featuring cuts handpicked by the MOBO Awards team, ‘The Connect’ is all about putting emerging talent on the map and on your radar. Judging by the talent we’ve featured so far, the future shines bright with a handful of artists that we hope will take this year by storm.

Some may already be on your radar and others may be a new discovery for you, but no act is the same – which indicates that we’re in for a treat when it comes to the new set of artists who are set to take over the blogosphere in 2017.

Check out some of our favourites from #TheConnect (so far!) below….

About : Mysterious in person, yet, at the same time, his music bears all. A2 is a true poet with a distinctive and incredible flow. 2016 saw him sell out two London headline shows and when his long-awaited album BLUE drops, its sure to be a very cold season.

MOBO Suggests:

Jvck James

About: Taking inspiration from the likes of Brandy, Frank Ocean and Majid Jordan, it's unsurprising to hear the depth in James’ lyrics. Already boasting an insane catalog of music, we can't wait to see how he develops throughout 2017.

Lottie Jade

About: Reminding us all that age ain’t nothing but a number, Lottie Jade, who has already seen support from BBC 1xtra, is already using her voice to spread positive vibes. Shine your light, Lottie!

About: 6LACK (pronounced Black), is one of the hottest new faces in R&B. Although many of his older songs have been wiped clean off the internet, his breakthrough record “PRBLMS” and debut album, FREE 6LACK, instantly caught our eyes and ears. Touching on everything from love, heartbreak, relationships and struggles, both personal and professional, 6LACK’s music reads like a personal journal of a young 24-year old who’s still finding his way. With over 15 million streams on SoundCloud, it’s safe to say that you can expect to hear more from 6LACK in 2017.

About: I can’t tell you much about H.E.R just yet, as an air of mystery constantly surrounds the RCA Records singer-songwriter. With very few publicity stills or an in-depth bio (rumour has it she’s actually Gabi Wilson), it’s clear from the offset that the R&B singer wants to let her music do the talking. Offering a refreshing take on R&B with the release of her phenomenal debut EP simply titled “H.E.R., Vol. 1,” the project quickly caught fire online despite the lack of information. With over 4 million streams on SoundCloud, along with fans in the likes Alicia Keys and  Bryson Tiller, H.E.R. definitely earns her spot as one to watch for 2017.

Dylan Williams

About: The South-London rapper of Ugandan heritage, who’s 2016 show at Birthday’s was a sellout, had us at hello with his project entitled ‘DRip’', which displays his incredible versatility. We have a feeling a bright future is in store for Dyls
