Drake pens a heartfelt letter in response to Alton Sterling shooting
The killing of Aaron Sterling, a 37-year-old father-of-five, by police in Louisiana has been widely condemned for what appears to be yet another deadly show of police brutality. The fatal shooting has brought a range of emotions and reactions to the surface, with a lot of people asking “When is this going to stop?” and Drake raises a similar point in a heartfelt letter he shared on Instagram.
“I am grateful to be able to call America my second home. Last night when I saw the video of Alton Sterling being killed it left me feeling disheartened, emotional and truly scared,” Drake opened up his letter. The rapper then reflected on the strained relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement, writing: “It’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago. No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues.”
