Jay Z and Chris Brown share new songs after police killings

Fury over the death of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling at the hands of law enforcement has inspired musicians to take action. Jay Z and Chris Brown are among the latest musicians who are using the power of music to push for change in regards to injustice and police brutality. In a new track titled “Spiritual,” Jay Z addresses police brutality and his own upbringing.

He wrote on Tidal: “Punch (TDE) told me I should drop this when Mike Brown died. Sadly, I told him ‘This issue will always be relevant’. I’m hurt that I knew his death wouldn’t be the last. I’m saddened and disappointed in THIS America. We should be further along. We are not.”

Chris Brown also delivered two new tracks in response to the Sterling and Castile killings titled “My Friend” and “A Lot Of Love”. He also weighed in on the recent cases of police brutality in another clip on Instagram. "Something gotta give, it has to," says Brown, who also posted a Daily News cover story featuring a bloodied Alton Sterling with a cop pointing a gun at him. "Sh-- is f---ing annoying and it's disrespectful. Man, we getting killed every day." He adds, "I’m getting pissed off about this sh--, regardless of how you f---ing view me… us as a people need to start coming together."
