Stormzy speaks out on Grime's absence in Brit Awards nominations

There’s no denying that the nominations for this year’s Brit Awards ceremony include some of the best talent in the world. But, as ever, there are also plenty of incredible artists who have completely lost out. With chart and commercial success coming from the likes of Skepta, Stormzy, Jme and Krept and Konan, who peaked at number 2 on the UK Album charts with their debut effort, The Long Way Home, not one Grime or Hip Hop artist landed a nomination this year.

Stormzy, who achieved a UK Top 10 single with “Shut Up” and won Best Grime Act at the 2015 MOBO Awards, described Grime’s absence from the nominations list as “such as shame” in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1.

“It was such a great year for Grime and underground music…I thought maybe this year it might be celebrated,” Stormzy said.

He continued: “You know when you’ve got that little bit of hope and that little bit of faith, and then they didn’t. I thought it was such a shame”.

However, he remains optimistic that things may change next year, saying: “It’s just a matter of breaking the down doors and carrying on.”
