The music world is mourning following the loss of British rapper Cadet. While details are still scarce, an official statement posted on the rappers Instagram page indicates that he passed away in the early hours of February 9 as a passenger in a taxi, while making his way to an upcoming gig.

“We the family of Blaine Cameron Johnson otherwise known as Cadet (Underrated Legend) would like to share the sad news that during the early hours of 9th February 2019 he passed away as a passenger in a taxi, en route to a performance. Right now, we the family appreciate your patience and will share with you any information as and when we can. Thanks for all your support in advance. Love, The Johnson Family.”

Since the news of Cadet’s passing broke early this morning, tributes and messages of support have flooded social media from artists and fans alike:

Known for his hard-hitting, honest and extremely personal bars, he quickly amassed a solid fan base following the release of his viral freestyle videos and highly-praised projects, The Commitment and The Commitment 2, as well as notable hits like “Advice” and “Trendy”.  He was poised for continued success in 2019 with an upcoming performance at this year’s Wireless Festival and new music in the pipeline.

We send our deepest condolences out to Cadet’s family and friends during this difficult time
